Sadie and harry McPhatter have lived in the same tenement house, in Glasgow's East End, since the day they were married and are now celebrating their Ruby Wedding Anniversary. It's a house full of happy memories where they raised their two children. The enjoyed the camaraderie of the tenements where there was always a helping hand and behind each door either lived a midwife, a lawyer, a doctor or an expert tradesman. Now they have been told that the building is to be demolished and that they must get out. Every family in the close has been re-housed - but the McPhatters refuse to move.
